Internships Asia places individuals throughout the region, but how do we select where interns go?  We focus on the programs and objectives of regional organizations, which are often located in the communities they serve.  This is an ideal situation, and some of those communities are highlighted below.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia
The capital of Cambodia is a city of contrasts, ancient and modern, rich and poor. Walking along the streets, sitting in a café, and talking to local people make it easy for the visitor to fall in love with the city. But most of its inhabitants struggle to earn their living, and some visitors regard the city as chaotic.

Phnom Penh is the center for humanitarian work with more international aid agencies than anywhere else in Cambodia. It is perfect for NGO workers. The Foreign Correspondents Club is the favorite place  to find INGO workers, journalists and photographers to discuss social issues.

Chaing Mai, Thailand
This is the second biggest city of Thailand. Some people may imagine it will be crowded and busy like Bangkok but Chiang Mai is beyond your imagination. It was voted one of the best cities to live in -  and, although it has a young and lively population, it is a favorite for Thais and foreigners as a retirement city. Prices are among the lowest in Thailand for everyday living.

It is surrounded by mountains and has fresh air most of the year. The province has thousands of temples which represent the unique style of Northern Thailand culture. Many people fall in love with its weather and its culture. It has many cultural and social opportunities and, for peacefulness, there is a beautiful public park.

Manila, Philippines
Manila is doubling in size, throwing up amazing new buildings and ways of life – and causing misery through poverty for homeless and landless people.

Local aid agencies in the Philippines are accepted internationally in their work practice and management standard. Many Initiatives have been launched to help reduce the poverty of people. Foreign volunteers who works there not only gain professional work experience but also learn how the country is transforming itself to be modern and self-sufficient in the long term.

Kanchanaburi, Thailand
Kanchanaburi is the historic town which played important roles in many battles during the past 200 years. This small town is located along the River Kwai and surrounded by mountain, the area of the infamous Death Railway of World War Two.

Today, it is a town with many child centers, schools and orphanages which adopt poor children from different parts of Thailand and its border with Myanmar.

It is a beautiful town, set in a beautiful area, and many NGOs see it as an ideal location to form schools and orphanages. Natural beauty is a good teacher if you want to nurture someone to be a good citizen.

Bangalore, India
Along the streets in India, you see the people’s poverty as they live on a dollar a day; and in the newspapers you read of the Indian businessmen who are millionaires .

The beauty and color of Bangalore draws visitors who are impressed by the women’s traditional dress and the Hindu temples.  India, the birthplace of Buddhism and yoga, is where many visit to seek the meaning of their life. If you like the smell of herbs, spices and the taste of curry, India is your heaven.

Penang, Malaysia
Penang is where people can live harmoniously with each other without regard for religion or race. It is one of the most fascinating historical towns of Malaysia with a lot of Chinese and Malay culture. Penang was well known of its traditional Malay-Chinese style of houses and food. It is a place where the modern meets with the  traditional and development can always come with conservation.
